As a child, did you ever snatch a dandelion out of someone’s yard and give it to a lonely, old widow who lived on your street? If so, you know the joy, delight and encouragement that sharing even the smallest of things can bring to another person. How much more so is it then when Holy Spirit gives us something to share, be it in word and/or action.

Now and then, a church member will ask to share a short testimony or a brief inspiring message with the church during a Sunday morning service. You may have wondered about what that is all about, since the person is often not the day’s scheduled speaker.

When we come together,  each believer has something to share, the Bible says.

This is biblical. The apostle Paul had much to say to the early church about sharing being an integral part of an orderly gathering of God’s people. When we come together, each of us have something to share, he said. It is noteworthy that he addressed this immediately following , 1 Corinthians 13, which is often called the “love” chapter.  Therefore, it is clear that all who share must do so in love.

This is what Paul talked about
in  1 Corinthians 14.

While you may not be called to teach, preach, bring a message in another language or interpret it, share a message from God, lead the congregation in worship—or sing a solo—you can be certain you have something to share that will bless others, be it a special verse God is prompting you to share, an encouraging word impressed upon your heart by God, a testimony of what He has done, a hug for someone who is hurting—or perhaps even a stick of gum to give a frazzled parent for their squirmy child.

The purpose of sharing is to help each of us grow stronger in faith.

Or course, you don’t have to wait until Sunday to share what God is putting on your heart to share. Everyday is a good day. Encourage [your Christian brothers and sisters] “daily, as long as it is called “Today,” God said in Hebrews 3:13.

What is God impressing
on your heart?

God has given each of us something to share. It might be one of the things listed above. It could be greeting people when they arrive at church, teaching a Sunday School class, taking a cup of coffee to someone having a rough week, praying for healing, writing a note and sending it snail mail, sending a short text or setting aside a few minutes to give someone a call and see how they are doing.

What has God put in your heart to say or do to encourage someone today?

Brothers and sisters, what should we say then? When you come together, each of you brings something. You bring a hymn or a teaching or a message from God. You bring a message in another language or explain what was said in that language. The purpose of whatever you do should be to help everyone grow stronger in faith.” 1 Corinthians 14:26
